3 ways to get started with your Nursing Degree
Application Requirements
Please review the following admission requirements:
ONLINE APPLICATION
Our online application is streamlined for your convenience and can be completed in approximately five minutes. You do not have to wait until you have all your documents and materials to submit your application. With your approval, HBU will request all of your transcripts on your behalf at no cost.
RN LICENSE
For the MSN programs, you must be a Texas resident and have an unencumbered Texas RN License. For the RN to BSN program, you do not have to be a Texas resident and must have an unencumbered RN License. Provisional admission for the RN to BSN program available for new ADN grads conditional upon completing NCLEX within the first 8-week term.
FINANCIAL AID
You may be eligible for financial aid through the Federal Financial Aid program. To find out your eligibility and what you may qualify for, complete and submit a current FAFSA application at www.fafsa.gov (Houston Baptist University school code: 003576).
It is important to complete the FAFSA process, in conjunction with your application, so that the Financial Aid office can review your file as soon as you receive your admissions decision.
OVERALL GPA
For BSN – Completion of an accredited ADN program (Associates Degree in Nursing)
- Full admission with a 3.0 GPA
- Provisional admission with a 2.5-2.9 GPA *Passing grades in first 6 credit hours is required
- New ADN graduates eligible for admission on the condition of passing the NCLEX exam within the first 8-week term with HBU
For MSN – Open to applicants who have completed their Bachelors of Nursing (BSN) at a regionally accredited higher education institution
- 3.0 GPA requirement
- GPA below 3.0 will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis for consideration for provisional acceptance – provisionally accepted students required to obtain a 3.0 or higher on each of the first three courses in their program to maintain enrollment
- Candidates will request enrollment in either the FNP or PNP-PC track
- Interview: An admission interview may be required with the MSN or Track Director
- MSN applicants will submit their resume during the application process
- FNP applicants: Priority will be given to applicants with 2 or more years of RN experience

A: No, there is no application fee.
A: The tuition for the BSN program is $465 per credit and the tuition for the MSN program is $500 per credit.
A: Yes, there is a general fee of $50 per term.* MSN clinical courses also have a clinical fee of $100 per course and an annual malpractice insurance fee which varies by year.
*HBU has 6 terms. All terms are 8 weeks in length.
A: No, there is no deposit required.
A: Yes, a range of payment plans are available to accommodate students’ personal finance and employer reimbursement needs.
A: For the MSN programs, a valid Texas RN license is required. For the RN to BSN program, a valid RN license is required.
A: Yes, for the RN to BSN, you can receive credit for having completed prior ADN coursework and HBU can support you in taking and getting credit for many CLEP exams.
A: All BSN courses are eight weeks in length, while all MSN courses are sixteen weeks in length.
A: There are six start dates offered per year for the BSN program (January, March, May, July, August, October) and two starts per year for the MSN program (August, January).
A: You have the ability to move through the program at your own pace, but the entire program can be completed in as little as 9 months.
A: The entire program can be completed in as few as 24 months for the PNP and 24-26 months for the FNP.
A: Yes. Program requirements are:
- MSN: A minimum of a B- for non-clinical courses and B for clinical and practicum courses must be achieved. A 3.0 GPA is required to be eligible for graduation.
- RN to BSN: You must maintain a cumulative 2.75 GPA at the end of each semester to enroll in nursing courses. If your GPA falls below this, you can enroll in general education courses and resume nursing courses as soon as a cumulative GPA of 2.75 has been reached
A: The RN to BSN and MSN programs are accredited by by the Texas Board of Nursing (TBON). The RN to BSN program is also accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) and the MSN program is also accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
